Samsung A737 Ultra-Thin Slider Unveiled for AT&T

AT&T yesterday unveiled the Samsung A737, an ultra-thin sliding phone with accelerated multimedia and entertainment features. The A737 offers Video Share, AT&T Mobile Music, stereo Bluetooth 2.0 technology, a 1.3-megapixel camera with video record, external memory microSD cards up to 4GB and advanced messaging options. The sliding design allows for a larger screen, which is ideal for browsing, reviewing photos and Video Share calling.
Users can share one-way live video while participating in a voice call. Both customers must be in an area served by the company’s 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone. Users can also send messages to friends and families any way they choose with Text Messaging, Mobile Email, AOL, Yahoo! and Windows Live Instant Messaging.

The size is a sheer delight with new digital cameras. First the nonrechargeable batteries got pencil thin, then we had the computers, and finally the lcd tv. Now with cameras going tiny, the only thing large enough will be the ringtones.

AT&T Mobile Music allows customers to use Napster and eMusic to load music on the handset. The A737 supports over-the-air music downloads through eMusic Mobile, and other services including Music ID, XM Radio, music video viewing, The Buzz music news portal and more.

Inside the A737, users will have 3G connectivity to AT&T’s network in more than 170 major metropolitan areas across the U.S. Data coverage outside 3G service areas is available via AT&T’s nationwide1 EDGE network. AT&T’s EDGE network is available in more than 13,000 cities and towns and along some 40,000 miles of major highways.

T-Mobile Sidekick LX

Flip Sidekick LX’s screen around and up, revealing the QWERTY keyboard underneath. Noted LCD Maker Sharp manufactures the Sidekick, and given Sharp’s display manufacturing prowess, it makes sense that the high-quality, 3-inch, WQVGA (400-by-240-pixel) display would draw on Sharp’s Aquos LCD technology.

T-mobile might also be selling cameras in addition to laptop computers and the usual dvd or the cd player, as a sidekick. A specialty of t-mobile is its special polymer-based battery.

You can customize the device’s alert lights–which include the trackball positioned at the right–to illuminate depending on the activity (for example, when you have an incoming SMS, MMS, IM, e-mail, or phone call). Sharp equipped the slide with support for up to 4GB of microSD memory (a 128MB card comes included).

The unit also has a built-in 1.3-megapixel camera with flash. Additionally, an integrated MySpace application (delivered over the air) is part of the Sidekick’s instant-messaging experience. Messaging and MySpace are huge components of the Sidekick: According to T-Mobile, 85 percent of all Web page views on the Sidekick are to MySpace.com, and typically more than 1000 IMs are sent per month.

Xpad Laptop Cooling Pad and Heatshield Review

The Xpad isn’t your typical laptop cooling pad, in fact it has no fans. That is one of the unique features of this cooling pad, besides its lightweight portable design. For those users unfamiliar with the Xpad, it’s a portable non-slip laptop pad that cools the laptop while also protecting the user from any heat.

I’ll have to say upon first look the Xpad doesn’t look like much, but it does allow for better airflow to your notebook. I have never used a USB cooling pad with fans, so I can’t say that this one is better, but I can give you the facts on how the Xpad performs. The Xpad is quoted as being able to keep your laptop up to 30 degrees cooler, I would say it’s more like 15 degrees, but this can depend on the laptop you have.

Of all the electronics in the market, most have an issue with batteries, whether it is the printers we are talking about, or the digital camera. Running a dvd rental heats them up and we are in serious need of a cooling device.

Apple Says No Thanks to Cash for iPhones

Apple has stopped accepting cash for the iPhone. Leaving credit and debit cards as the only means by which you can now buy one from the company. For Apple, the point of this new policy is to allow them to better track who buys an iPhone. Apple is also limiting iPhone sales to two per customer.

The new cashless iPhone economy is the direct result of the market for unlocked iPhones. Those that have been altered in some way to work on a wireless network other than AT&T’s, the exclusive service provider for the iPhone thus far.

With its new payment policy, Apple is attempting to stem the tide of iPhones that are bought to be unlocked and resold. According to Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook, it is a number that is nothing to sneeze at. Last week, during Apple’s financial call, he said more than 250,000 of the 1.4 million or so iPhones that have been sold so far have not been connected to AT&T’s network.

Apple will continue making its own cell phone accessories for the cell phones it will launch in future. The news was bad for sprint phones as well as lg phones who were planning to introduce new accessories to go with I phone.

Mobile Phone ‘Heroes’ Unleashed

Gameloft has just announced the release of Heroes: The Official Mobile Game, based on NBC’s most talked about television series. The game also brings players a sneak peak on what season two of the movie will have to bring to its fans.

The Season Two spoiler is available only through the mobile game, challenging players to play it in order to locate a hidden room that contains a secret.
This reveals a long-standing mystery from the popular TV series. This might even be considered more important than finishing the game, overall. The challenge increases, as the player’s lack of attention might make him complete the game without discovering the Second Season spoiler.

This makes a witty strategy that will involve the true fans of the TV series even more than in the past and also arouse their interest on the show’s sequel. “We are always looking for organic ways to extend the Heroes story in the transmedia landscape,” said Tim Kring, creator and executive producer of “Heroes”. Moreover, “The Gameloft project afforded us a perfect opportunity to begin revealing an important Season Two story point before it actually hits the television screen”, he further added. Google to Announce Software & Services for Google Cell Phones

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, Google is expected to announce within the next two weeks their advanced software and services that will enable handset manufacturers to bring Google-powered phones to market by mid-2008.

The future Google cell phones are expected to merge applications such as Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail.  Google is also planning to have an “open-source” platform for its cell phone so independent software developers can build additional cell phone features.

Mobile In-Game Advertising Service Gets Testing

Top international brands such as: Calvin Klein, Domino’s Pizza, Fox, eBay and many others will start using the mobile gaming environment for placing their ads. This should help them stand out with a bold and fresh customer approach and also bring cheaper, or even free mobile games.

Jamster, one of the world’s leading
providers of digital entertainment and innerActive Smart Media, a leading provider of innovative ad-funded entertainment channel, have announced today a trial of a new Mobile In-Game Advertising service in the UK. “This new offer enables Jamster to target new usage groups. In a market where most consumers play mobile games on their handset but only a small percentage actually download them “over the air” and pay for them, in game advertising is a good way to address “first time users” of mobile games”, considers Lee Fenton, COO of Jamster.

The world of advertising is tough for companies that want to surface from the huge number of advertisements for services and products. Using mobile games for placing unconventional ads is a new strategy that many companies are looking to use. The innerActive solution provides advertising matching the game’s context for high impact advertising campaigns, such as in-content placements, click to call, mobile coupons and incentives.

First UK review: Fujitsu LifeBook U810

Instead of calling the Fujitsu LifeBook U810 an ultraportable or ultramobile portable PC, Fujitsu calls it a mini-notebook, which might be more of a marketing term than a specific product category.

Fujitsu has taken a Windows PC (users can decide whether to have Vista or XP preinstalled) and shrunk it as much as possible so it can be carried around much more easily than a standard or an ultralight notebook. The convertible design lets the Fujitsu LifeBook U810 be used as a notebook (with a keyboard) or – by swiveling the screen – a tablet. It’s currently available in the US, and starts from only $1,000 (£500), which makes it well-priced indeed.

The little Fujitsu LifeBook U810 may weigh just 0.7kg, but it’s a heavyweight in terms of the features Fujitsu has packed into it, including Intel’s A110 processor (800MHz, 512KB of Layer 2 cache and a 400MHz front-side bus); 1GB of system memory; a 5.6in touchscreen with WSVGA resolution (1,024 by 600 pixels); a 40GB hard drive; integrated digital camera and Webcam (VGA resolution), wireless LAN (802.11a/b/g) and Bluetooth connectivity. An included dongle supports Ethernet connections and a VGA connection for an external monitor.

The Fujitsu LifeBook U810 includes a Compact Flash card slot and Secure Digital card slot for additional memory storage (or for transferring files), and has one USB 2.0 port for additional peripherals. Security features include an integrated fingerprint scanner, BIOS lock and support for the Trusted Platform Module. [Read more...]
