All In One Printers

Remember how it used to be? You’d print something out from your archaic printer, before having to sidle over to a clunky old copier, and then sending it elsewhere through your ancient, whirring, chirping fax machine. Thankfully, those days are gone. The multifunctional printer/copier/fax is where it’s at! But which one to choose? Here’s a few of the best…

The Canon Pixma MX870 is a full featured multifunctional printer ideal for any home office. Budget priced but packed with features, the Pixma MX870 boasts an automatic document feeder, duplexing and wireless networking. It can handle 300 sheets across two trays – making a mockery of printers twice the price with paper capacities of far, far less. The downside is the bulkiness of the unit, and its printing speed is not quite what you’d expect of similarly priced models. However, there’s more to take a look at…

The Brother MFC-6490CW is a little on the slow side, but its size means it can scan and print tabloid-size pages up to 11in by 17in. In other words, it’s a perfect printer for menus, brochures, leaflets, fanzines and newsletters. It also features a 50-page automatic document feeder. There are two paper trays – one for 150 pages and the other carrying 250 pages. An excellent box of tricks all round, especially if you’re working commercially.

Hewlett Packard’s Officejet 4500 manages to work in oft-expensive features like automatic document feeding and manual duplexing for a low price. The wireless version is almost unbeatable in terms of value – but there are a couple of catches. Firstly, the printer is slow, and the output quality could certainly be better. However, most reviews report a solid all-in-one with little to complain about. Certainly, any complaints would be a little churlish given the low market price of the 4500.

All of the printers we featured today are available at Ryman. Check out their website for more information and pricing on a wide range of good-value printers.
